Self-Monitor Between Professional Visits
A back of the eye examination by your eye care professional using special
instruments is the best way to detect and monitor AMD. A way to self-monitor
between professional visits is by looking at an Amsler Grid. This is a pattern
that resembles a checkerboard with a dot in the center. While staring at the
dot, you may notice that the straight lines in the pattern appear wavy to you.
Or you may notice that some of the lines are missing. Print and take the quick
vision test using the Amsler Grid.
Looking at an Amsler Grid on a daily basis will help you stay alert to any
sudden changes in your vision that may require immediate attention by your eye
care professional.
Please note: this test should not replace regularly scheduled visits with
your eye care professional.
