Sport-Tinted Contact Lens by Bausch & Lomb
FOR RELEASE Thursday, May 26, 2005
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared for market distribution the Nike MAXSIGHT (polymacon) Sport-Tinted Contact Lens by Bausch & Lomb. The soft contact lens is indicated for daily wear for the correction of refractive myopia and hyperopia.
The Nike MAXSIGHT sport-tinted contact lens is designed to aid visual performance in athletic settings. Using patented Light Architecture optics, the Nike MAXSIGHT contact lens selectively filters specific wavelengths of light within the visible spectrum to enhance key visual elements such as a ball or background while reducing distracting sun glare during various outdoor sporting activities. This enables the wearer to see a ball or selected objects with greater clarity than with the naked eye.
Attracted by Bausch & Lomb's reputation as a technological innovator in contact lenses, Nike sought out Bausch & Lomb to partner in the development of the new sport-tinted contact lens three years ago. In addition to co-development activities, Bausch & Lomb will manufacture the lens and market it to eye care professionals; Nike, Inc. will be responsible for consumer marketing activities.
Bausch & Lomb plans to introduce the Nike MAXSIGHT sport-tinted contact lens to eye care professionals at the American Optometric Association annual meeting in Dallas in June.
The Nike MAXSIGHT sport-tinted contact lens by Bausch & Lomb is scheduled for launch in the U.S. and Europe in late summer in two tints: Grey-Green, designed for sports played in bright sunlight such as golf, football, running and rugby; and Amber, designed for fast-moving ball sports played in variable light such as soccer, tennis, baseball and softball.
Eye care professionals interested in receiving information on the lens closer to launch may call Bausch & Lomb at 800-348-2743 or send an email inquiry to maxsight@bausch.com.
